There is a strong commitment to their personal and professional development. Nightingale teachers are continually striving to improve the experiences offered to children in order for them to learn and develop throughout their early years.
Supporting Learning with the Best Staff We want our Preschool and Junior Kindergarten to be the best and so attracting and retaining the best staff is paramount. Good staff are crucial in providing a memorable preschool and Junior Kindergarten experience and this is why we are dedicated to supporting staff with correct level of training every step of the way. Our friendly, highly-trained staff are focused on providing fun and education, and they will work to ensure your child develops as an individual, whilst helping to nurture and encourage learning through discovery and enjoyment. We expect all our staff to engage in skilful and sensitive interactions to support a child's learning, by ensuring that play opportunities, resources and interactions indoors and outdoors are appropriate to the level of competence and maturity of the child. Children learn best where adults are keen to continue their own learning and development. Delivery of the best education is made possible by ensuring staff have in-depth knowledge and understanding gained through continuing professional development. Staff must have the skills, knowledge and enthusiasm to observe, scaffold and plan for children's learning effectively, identifying and meeting any additional needs. Internally, we are constantly looking at standards met by the UK, Europe and Australia. We like to ensure that we keep up to date with current ‘best practice’ and are capable of offering the very best to your child and monitor and improve the experiences we offer to children. We also pride ourselves in understanding the importance of instilling confidence and enthusiasm in your child from an early age. After all, our collective aim is for happy and contented children who enjoy living in a culture that nurtures and values the importance of a happy childhood. About the Director/Teacher Director, Tronie Brown Tronie was born in England and spent much of her youth in Kenya, East Africa. She has travelled extensively and worked in South Africa, England and Germany.
She received her Montessori Diploma in 1991 and in 1994 she moved to Germany and taught 2 ½ to 5 year-olds in an English Preschool. Tronie later took on the management position and then became the Director. She left Germany for Victoria in 2000 and married her husband, Ian.
Tronie received her Early Childhood Education (ECE) Certificate in September, 2002 and worked for a year with the 3 to 4 year-olds at the University of Victoria Child Care services.
Tronie opened Nightingale Preschool and Junior Kindergarten in January 2003.
In May 2008 Tronie was one of 15 Early Childhood Educators who were selected throughout British Columbia to receive the "Child Care Awards of Excellence". Kristan Koehn Teacher, Kristan Koehn Kristan is originally from Saskatoon, SK where she received her Education Degree from the University of Saskatchewan in May 2003. In August of 2003, she moved out to the West Coast and began exploring her passion as a childhood educator, a path travelled for five years now. Whilst living in Vancouver she was a nanny to a family of four children for two years. When she moved to Victoria she worked at a Daycare in Sooke for two years, before joining the Nightingale team in January of 2008. In March of 2008 Kristan took on the role of the Numeracy teacher. She is a dedicated teacher committed to providing a fun, healthy, and stimulating learning environment that will promote life long learners. "I cherish the role that I play as an educator for all the beautiful children that I encounter and I love how much they teach me along the way!" Susy Infante Teacher, Susy Infante Susy was born in Toronto, Ontario with English as her second language. She spent her youth in Toronto and took on an early leadership role in her community volunteering with the City of Toronto Parks and Recreation where she provided younger children with art and craft activities. It was then (at the age of nine) that Susy decided that she wanted to be a teacher. Susy attended Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario where she graduated with a Montessori - ECE diploma in 1993. She gained some experience working at the York University Child Care Centre until she started her own family and took some time off to focus on raising her boys who are one year and a few weeks apart. That proved to be the most valuable experience ever. Being able to apply her acquired skills at home on her own children and adapting to their different styles of learning became her focus. They moved to Victoria in 2007 from Ottawa, Ontario and by March of 2008 Susy had found Nightingale Preschool where she can continue to grow, learn, laugh, share and explore in such a fun and dynamic environment. |
