We showcased the diversity of families we have at Nightingale by having a Food Fair with tables full of food from 15 different countries. These were prepared by the families from Nightingale. The Mayor Alan Lowe attended the festival and opened the Food Fair by cutting the ribbon.

Children and families were entertained by a local band called Jambanja. Jambanja pleased the crowd no end by playing African music non-stop for 2 hours!

All proceeds from the event go towards sponsoring a child in Kenya through FostersParents Plan. Please see Kenyan trip for further information.

Nightingale's Sponsored Child in Kenya
Kenya Kenya Kenya In August 2005 Tronie (the Director) took a trip back to Kenya (East Africa) to visit her parents who live in Nairobi.

"Definitely one of the highlights of this trip was the visit to see our (Nightingale's) sponsored child. I was most impressed by those working for Foster Parents Plan in Kenya, who went out of their way to accommodate our requests.

Before my departure I had placed an empty suitcase in the school and invited the children here at Nightingale to fill it with any clothes or toys from their home. Their response was overwhelming and I left with a suitcase and a box full of gifts for our child.

We drove 120kms north out of Nairobi, along dirt roads and over dry river beds. As there are no roads leading to the village, we parked and walked for a further 5kms.

Once we had reached our child's home, there was much celebration. Gifts were exchanged, photos taken and as their language is Kikamba, conversations were translated from English to Kikamba, Kikamba to English".

Nightingale children continue to be part of our sponsored child's life in Kenya through writing letters, taking photographs and creating drawings to send to our child. The school continues to raise money through their annual event every December. Please see 'Festival of Cultures' event.
